    It’s interesting Digger should say that really, since she herself used the adjective “demonic” to describe shadowchild, *before* they encountered the veiled.

    She probably meant that she doesn’t know what the locals consider demons to be. Wombat demons are probably something involving rocks, metal, architecture, dirt, or some combination of the above. Like how ancient Germans thought that cobalt ore was copper ore that demons/goblins/kobolds had tampered with to prevent it from smelting properly. Hence the name cobalt/kobold, now that we know what it really is. I bet wombat language is full of things like that.
