Ok, slight nerdy satisfaction from showing of my Pratchett knowledge aside, another deeply moving page. As an archaeologist I often deal with anonymous human remains and can only speculate on what various people did when alive. I like the British Neolithic and Bronze Age, so we don’t know the language they spoke, what form of religion they practised, and beyond the physical(studying the wear of their bones) and the chemical (the isotope ratio of said remains to study their diet and the geology they were born on to trace migration) we don’t really (and we hate to admit this) know anything about them aside from the burial monuments they left behind.
But go to Salisbury plain and look at the final stage of Stonehenge, or to Avebury and Silbury hill, or stand on the small, unknown sites across Brittan, such as the humble hill with its burial mound overlooking the inland sea and still standing boundary walls of flooded bronze-age fields at Knackyboy on St Martins, Isles of Scilly, and tell me they didn’t know how to build them.
Ed is also short for Edward, and Digger thought for a while that she was a small stone named Edward. COINDICENCE!?
Maybe.
I hate to laugh about something in such a somber page apart from the intentional comic relief, but XD at the idea of a wombat named for a propensity toward chewing on the Senior Architect.
I love you. I really do. My holloween costume is going to be a cuttlefish, attacking squashes, and if I did graffiti “Gastropodz rule” would be on my local CVS. As it stands, I’ll be writing it somewhere in my books and recommending it to my Physics teacher. X3
