As an engineer, I’m actually really surprised at Digger. No good engineer ever forgets their units. Things like that cause certain space missions to end in spectacular, million dollar failures…
@Jiyambi: there are all kinds of assumptions that could be made here to fill in that hole.
First, although engineers are not very likely to forget units of measurement (a certain space mission to which you alluded notwithstanding), artists forget units of measurement all the time. (No offense, Ursula! )
Second, we have no real way of knowing what system of measurement Digger actually uses, and whether it’s very common or perhaps even universal. It’s entirely possible that everyone uses the same units, or at least that Digger has not yet ever encountered someone who uses a different measurement system than hers. With that assumption, explicitly stating the units would be redundant, which would conflict with Digger’s eminently practical personality.
