  1. abb3w says:

Thx,Zellion; with the reference (comic 252) the irony becomes richer still. While lying on top of the shackle of the semi-dead God (as others commented last comic), Digger made the mistake of saying “I !!!WISH!!! I could have met him.” When mucking about with gods and the supernatural, saying that word almost invariably constitutes a major tactical error. “Thy wish is granted, honored Digger-of-Unnecessarily-Convoluted-Tunnels.”

However, as matters of symmetry go, the lack of an obvious hyena ghost hanging around suggests a possible nature for the Shadowchild even more disturbing than normal (even for Shadowchild levels of “normal”). I wonder if the Shadowchild is the Ghost of a stillborn Godling, the child of He-Is and She-Is?

  2. Siege says:

Well, hey! Now we get the straight story.

Noting that there was at least one dwarf in the previous event(s), perhaps now Grim-Eyes takes their place? And abb3w, you might just be right! Now I’m even more interested! I thought the Shadowchild was the shadow of the god’s heart… and now metaphor gets in the way.

Maybe they get to redeem the prisoner?

  3. Ysabet says:

**snerk** Thanks, fatuncle; but no, I’m just a very happy reader. ^__^ Can not freaking WAIT to see where this goes next.

  4. Kelci says:

hehehe, this is an awesome outcome. Especially the “more disgruntled ethereal chanting.” I can imagine Helix hurrying through the aether and the chanters having to speed up to match his/her pace 😀

  5. Jessica says:

This made me squee hardcore. 🙂

  6. bookwyrm says:

ROFLAMO!!!! “Somewhat more disgruntle ethereal chanting”!!!! And then the mutual response of helix the wombat ghost _and_ digger!!! lol!!! that’s just soooo funny!

  7. LunarMusic says:

Blood and shale indeed. Well, at least we can expect some straight answers, now.

  8. Rowan says:

Now for the hyena ghost to complete the circus.

  9. Mishal says:

Awesome! I’m all caught up, and chafing that now I have to wait until Tuesday to read what will surely be an embarrassed silence between Digger and Ghost!Helix. Fun,

  10. reepicheep says:

I wonder if this wombat ghost is the same one who left the note near the dead god…?

  11. macdjord says:

Woot! Double the wombat, double the fun!

  12. Jelis says:

    Ahahahaaaaaaaaa! XD

  13. Kevinbunny says:

    *giggles muchly*

  14. Imandra says:

My “Website” is a link to an NPR story that I thought anyone who reads this comic on any sort of regular basis might appreciate. It’s about Paper, and Wombats. I figured the website link was the least spammy way to get it out there, so there you go, click or don’t click, totally up to you

  15. Otookee says:

Something tells me Digger and Helix may know each other…

  16. KNO3 says:

Nah, Otookee, it’s just that both wombats are embarrased as hell being caught up in god stuffs.

  17. Snow_Cat says:

    ^ · · ^ Meow!
^- – ^ That is awesome. It invokes the feeling I get when I’m trying to troubleshoot someone’s electronics project; and after three hours I push them aside to double check the input-voltage myself, only to find that they failed to turn the power-supply on; and I have to start the process all over again.

  18. Jon says:

Gah. Almost read that as “Blood and ashes.” ‘swhat I get, I suppose, for reading four of Jordan’s books in a row, then devouring the archives here in a day and a half.

  19. Adam Cuerden says:

I was just reading the archives, and found Helix’s previous mention.

Which just makes this strip even cooler.

  20. Adam Cuerden says:

And, no, I’m not going to say where Helix is mentioned. Ursula would kill me I’ll give a useless hint, though: The page number is one greater than a number that is part of two different sets of sexy primes.

  21. Egypt Urnash says:

I just realized. This is a momentous point in Digger’s history – it’s the first time there has been anything that is neither black, nor white, shown in the strip. The ghost and their word balloon are the first thing to be clearly painted on another translucent layer.

  22. David. says:

You’re right Adam, that is a useless hint. Especially since Helix has *already* been outed in the comments…

  23. Oscelot says:

I swear, the panel where Helix pops in seriously needs to be a widescreen wallpaper.

  24. jitai says:

    AHHAHAAHHAHAAHH!~!

  25. Archangel Beth says:

It’s gonna be love at first swear… Two wombats, separated by time and, y’know, physical vs. noncorporeal, both caught up in crazy god-business and none too pleased by it…

  26. Eugene says:

“Something tells me Digger and Helix may know each other…”

No no no, it’s even better than that. Remember when Digger first discovered Helix’s writing on that shackle? She mentioned how it sort of constituted this distant connection of embarrassment bridging the gap between eons, as the engraver would be embarrassed were any other Wombat to read it, and said Wombat would inevitably be embarrassed to be in a situation where she could. And now, here they are, literally bridging the gap of eons through mutual embarrassment. Awesome.

  27. Zeynep says:

I think the shout of laughter startled the neighbors again.

  28. TekServer says:

They even have (nearly) matching vests. Kindred spirits, definitely.

    😉

  29. Mark Antony says:

Oh thank She-Is-Fiercer, it’s a wombat. Now we can actually get answers.

  30. Hunter says:

    Oh, this will be fun.

  31. Clearly it’s not a new epithet.

  32. Trogdog says:

    “blood and shale”
lol. apparently that wombat curse has been around for quite some time. It’s great that that’s the first thing the both think of.

  33. Kisame says:

    Funniest. Situation. ever.

  34. Murasaki says:

    …………………..
The ghost is as disturbed to see Digger, as Digger is to see it……
    *can’t stop laughing….*

  35. ronin1337 says:

    That’s…just….LOL :D.HILLARIOUS :DDD.
    uff.

  36. Elkian says:

    XD
Wait, isn’t he the one that wrote on the deadish god’s shackle?

  37. JET73L says:

abb3w: That is an extremely interesting thought. Idoubt it is the case, but it is highly plausible.

I love how Helix’s chanting is somewhat more disgruntled than thr other ghost’s
