Rags: It was stated earlier (I can’t remember how much earlier) that Digger’s full name is “Digger-of-Unnecessarily-Convoluted-Tunnels of Quartzclaw clan”. Judging from her conversations with “Descending-Helix of Fernfossil clan”, it looks as though the “of [X] clan” part serves the purpose of a Western surname [X]; and the ‘descriptive’ name serves the purpose of a given name and is usually abbreviated to one element. Helix referred to her as “young Quartzclaw” as they were setting out down the long stair, but I don’t know (i) where the formality boundaries are, or (ii) how they may have changed between Helix’s time and Digger’s.
Playing with her name made me wonder: If someone were to address her formally, would they call her Ms. Tunnels? 😀
re: Manuel being stopped by an avalanche:
It might not stop him, but I’d bet it would slow him down at least a little.
…Am I the only one who feels as though the ending would have made a lot of sense on this page? I could close the book here.
But then, we’d never see the Bandersnatch again.
